Last night I witnessed a miracle.

I watched the light switch flip on in a dim room filled with balloons and pre-party anxiety. The light poured in when SHE arrived. She entered filled with spirit and a smile. Her power posse quickly followed. She danced her way into the party dressed in Pink and filled with joy. She brought a friend. Her friend brought a friend. Her voice buzzed throughout the room and her loving energy filled the ether. Like bright sprites she multiplied and the light began to expand. The light began to melt into the walls and bleed into the streets. Her love shook the city and extended to communities far and wide. She was empowered from her core. She was surrounded by her Power Posse. She was living INJOY. She became a ball of golden light. (more…) read more →

This morning, I passed by a new Tasti D-Lite ad promoting a new store location. In hot pink letters, the ad read, “Dessert Your Guilt.” I said to myself, ‘Is that for real?!’ I thought we’d found every escapist method for dealing with our issues, but Tasti-D-Lite had proven me wrong. Now, our society has kicked it into high gear by promoting four ounce, chemical-filled Styrofoam containers to help us avoid discomfort!

This sent me into a tizzy. I work very hard to help myself and many other people to stop drinking, shopping, having sex, desserting, etc. over feelings of guilt. Now, Tasti-D-Lite is combating my self-love movement! Instead of fighting back, I chose to shine some light on the subject. Really, any sensation as good as a donut or a pizza, or, maybe even a Tasti-D-Lite will soothe the garden-variety guilt. But, true happiness comes from something much deeper, and will save you the cost of the confection as well.

Why all the guilt? And, where did it come from? (more…) read more →

Editors Note: We as human beings have a choice to make on a moment by moment basis.  We can either choose to digest the fear, anxiety and worry that is easily found around us everyday, or we can choose to digest love.  This article is an incredibly insightful and informative breakdown of how to go from taking in all the negativitiy in the world, to becoming what Gabrielle Bernstein calls a “Lovetarian” today.  Read below to get information on her next lecture as well!! ~Nitika~

Five years ago, I decided to clean up my mind and become a loveatarian. Choosing loving thoughts over fearful delusions was a tough transition at first. Giving up fear is like giving up sugar. Much like sugar, fear is a sneaky ingredient that hides out in everything. And just when you think you’ve got it under control all of sudden it pops up again. Therefore releasing fearful patterns requires you become a loveatarian.

One of the key components to my loveatarian lifestyle is my dedication to the teachings of A Course in Miracles. The Course teaches, “An untrained mind can accomplish nothing.” The Course is a self-study metaphysical guide that can be approached in whatever capacity works best for the individual. My experience studying The Course has resulted in a full blown mind cleanse and a super rockin’ life. As soon as I cleaned up my fearful thought patterns everything began to change. The most significant change is not what I experience, but instead, how I experience my experiences. As a result of following The Course’s suggestions I’ve forgiven my past, released my future and show up for the present with love and faith. Like they say in twelve step meetings, “It works if you work it.” Therefore I keep workin’ it on a moment by moment basis.

The crucial ingredients to workin’ The Course’s mind cleanse are the following concepts:
1.
“Nothing real can be threatened” – Translation: Only love is real
2. “Nothing unreal exists” – Translation: All fear is an illusion
3. “Herein lies the peace of God” – Translation: Choose love over fear and you will be way more chilled out

So how do you choose love over fear? One word: Forgiveness. The act of forgiveness is to the loveatarian as a wheat grass enema is to the raw foodie. Forgiveness guides us to remove all of the old fear crap and clear space for love. The Course teaches that forgiveness is the key component to bringing the egos darkness to the light. Rather than continuing to play the role of victim we can forgive and be set free. With each choice to forgive you shift your perception from fear to love. The Course teaches that every shift in perception creates a miracle. Miracles are crucial to the lovetarians mind cleanse.

The payoff for sticking to the loveatarian way is that the more you choose forgiveness and love the more you miracles you experience. And the more miracles you add up, you become less and less likely to perceive life through fearful lenses. When you choose to perceive love over fear, life gets super fun. You feel peaceful and you see love in all situations. Your fears subside and your life feels guided.

If you’re interested in these kinds of results begin your loveatarian diet today, and if you want a partner go to the on-line community Her Future and find a woman who is ready to start this journey with you!

Proceed with the following plan:

Breakfast: Pray to God/Universe/Inner Guide. Talk to whoever you think is listening and ask them for help. Ask the power greater than you to align your thoughts with love just for today. Following your prayer, add in a five minute meditation. In your meditation recite the mantra, “I choose love over fear, I welcome a miracle.” Repeat this out loud throughout your five minute meditation.

Snack: Make a list of all the people you need to forgive.

Lunch: Start forgiving. Go down the list and send a silent blessing to them all. Say out loud or in your mind, “I forgive you and I release you.”

Afternoon Snack: Send a loving email or text message to someone on your forgiveness list. Keep it simple. If you’re having a hard time forgiving just write, “I hope you’re having a great day.”

Dinner: Make a list of everything in your life that you’re grateful for that day.

Late Night Snack: Pray again. Thank (God/Universe or whoever you speak to) for another beautiful day. Say a prayer for anyone in need and everyone on your forgiveness list. Turn your day over and set your intention for a peaceful night sleep.

Like any great diet, true transformation will occur with daily repetition. Begin with a thirty day commitment to start seeing some positive results. By choosing to follow the loveatarian plan for the next thirty days you will begin to reprogram your thoughts from fear back to love. If you dig the results, stick to the plan and commit to a life as a loveatarian. Trust me you’ll feel much lighter!

Editors Note: This article completely resonates with me as creating a consistant meditation practice is something that I still have trouble with today.  Gabrielle’s Memoir is an inspiring reminder that we don’t have to have everything figured out with our spiritual practice – thank goodness!  Follow Gabrielle on her very personal journey and allow yourself to take things one step at a time. ~Nitika~

My name is Gabrielle and I’m a recovering over-thinker.

Recovering is the operative word. For the past fourteen years, I’ve worked hard to overcome my addiction to over-thinking.

I was 16 years old when I realized I was addicted to my thoughts. These thoughts were merely fearful illusions I’d created based on past experiences and uncertainty of the future. I was totally consumed by my thoughts and they often manifested into some funky behavior. For instance, I’d control, manipulate and obsess over all situations and outcomes. I was in a perpetual state of fear, which affected every area of my life. My mind would fixate on would happen when I went to college to wishing I hadn’t’ eaten so much. Eventually, these thoughts led to a severe anxiety disorder with no recourse.

Seeking serenity, I turned to my mother for help. In true hippie-mom style, she lit some incense and sat my ass down on a meditation pillow. At the time my mother was a devotee of Gurumayi  the head of the Siddah Yoga lineage. The Siddha Yoga community uses the mantra (mantra: a word or group of words that guide you to a single pointed focus), Soham, (meaning “I am that” in Sanskrit.) My mother proceeded to teach me how to use this mantra while connecting to my breath. Consequently, this mantra meant nothing to me at the time, but I was willing to try anything to calm my incessant thoughts. I followed my mother’s lead, refocusing my mind by breathing in “Sooooooo” and breathing out the “Hummmm.” She suggested I use this mantra throughout the day, whenever I felt my pangs of anxiety kick in. Each time I’d turn to this mantra, my mind would soften more and more. To my surprise, meditation worked.

A few weeks into my meditation practice, I decided to take a weekend trip to the beach with some friends. In the middle of dinner, I noticed my fearful panic set in. So, I excused myself from the table and I went upstairs to meditate. I sat in the guest room of some random friends beach house repeating my mantra.

“Soooo – Hummmm– Soooo – Hummmm– Soooo – Hummmm.”

Within minutes, my energy shifted. My fear began to subside and my mind calmed. As the meditation continued, my extremities began to tingle. I became overwhelmed with a feeling of joy and peace as if I was wrapped in a blanket of love. This was my first encounter with my ~ing or inner guide.

I spent the next nine years searching for this same experience. I dipped in and out of my meditation practice, typically returning to it upon hitting a bottom of some kind. For instance, when I’d be coming down from drugs or while going through a breakup I’d then turn to my practice for some serenity and pick up my meditation tools for a day or so and feel better right away. As soon as serenity settled in, I’d be off to the races reverting back to my old fearful thinking and controlling behavior.

I spent several years stuck in this cycle of pseudo-spirituality. This apathetic approach to my well-being dragged me to my knees time and time again. Then I hit a big-time bottom. My astrologer called it my “Saturn Return.” I called it an existential crisis! It seemed as though the universe were a tennis ball machine blasting me with assignments. The assignments came in the form of overcoming romantic illusions, shifting careers and embracing a life of sobriety. In the past, I’d have coped with these assignments with drugs, alcohol, a new relationship, or overworking. None of these “remedies” ever worked. I finally surrendered to the fact that my outside chase for serenity was a dead end and something had to change. So I turned my search for happiness inward. I called on my memory of meditating in some random friends beach house at the age of sixteen. I remembered how it felt to relinquish my fearful illusions and surrender to the loving energy that surrounded me. My recollection of this time was so vivid that it propelled my desire to know more. Thus, it was time to surrender to a full-blown, rocked out, no-joke meditation practice.

I set up a meditation shrine and hit the pillow on a daily basis. I was determined to do it right this time. I read all kinds of books on meditation, listened to audio meditations, attended workshops, lectures and found a meditation coach. And to top off, I picked up the self-study metaphysical thought system A Course in Miracles and embarked on a 365 meditative transformation.

Oddly, I felt grateful for the discomfort I’d experienced throughout my life because it had led me to surrender to a committed meditation practice. My willingness to change helped jumpstart this shift but the initial steps were not that easy. It was very difficult for me to sit through my chaotic thoughts and emotional discomfort. Yet, during each meditation I’d experience fleeting moments of peace, which kept me coming back to my pillow to receive more. Each day my meditations lasted longer and grew deeper. Some days, I’d turn on music, like Helios or Sigur Ross, and I’d meditate through an entire album. As my practice strengthened, it became effortless for me to enter into a calm state and release my thoughts. The result was that my practice had guided me to quiet my beta brainwaves (associated with active thinking, speaking, and analyzing) and amp up my Alpha brainwaves, which led me into a pleasant, relaxed wakeful state of awareness. In addition, my practice had opened up my right brain, which is where we access our creative capacities. With this creative side of my brain pumping, my ~ing could do her thing creating images, igniting inspired ideas and healing my past wounds.

Today, my practice continues to intensify. Whenever I meditate my ~ing (inner guide) leads me on imaginative journeys into my subconscious. At times, I get extremely emotional. Whereas other times, I feel so rested that I fall into a deep sleep. As a result of my dedication to my meditation practice, I have discovered the key to serenity that will get me through anything in life. I now can reconnect to my own energy and the energy of the Universe the moment I shut my eyes. Above all, I’ve accessed the key to happiness and I am psyched to share it with you.

So like they say in Alcoholics Anonymous – “If you want what I have do what I do.”

Therefore, I’ve made it easy for you. I have created free-guided meditations on my iTunes podcast to get you started and help guide you through this journey. Listen to each one for a new meditation guide and follow my lead. I’ll offer up step-by-step tools for beginning your own meditation practice. Each podcast will layer onto the next, providing you with a strategic guide towards enhancing your meditations. Eventually, I’ll encourage you to go out on your own and explore more techniques, mix them up and figure out what your individual practice means to you. You are not alone on this journey. I’ll be here as your guide through my podcasts, ~ing blogs, and you can find me on my Meditation Power Posse on www.herfuture.com.
