Everyone is hearing the buzz about the benefits of Omega-3s and one of the best sources for the good stuff is Salmon.

Sure, you can leave it plain and bake it, but why not make it saucy and exciting?  This is one of my favorite recipes because it’s literally bursting with flavor, it’s  salty and a little sweet (always a winning combo!) plus has great immunity boosting ingredients like garlic and ginger.  That little kick of red pepper flakes will get your metabolism all revved up.

Happy Spring! You know what that means? Summer is right around the corner; and if summer is right around the corner, then so is beach season. The old me used to work myself into a tizzy about getting into bikini shape; this included fad diets, over-exercising, and an obscene amount of time spent searching for cellulite in the mirror.  Thankfully I threw out those habits like yesterday’s tofu, and picked up some healthier ones instead. Recently I have become increasingly aware of how amazing, brilliant, and beautiful women abandon themselves without realizing that they are, in fact, abandoning themselves the way they currently are. So many of us live in a world of potential; thinking that because we plan to change ourselves, we don’t have to love who we are today!

If you ask me, this is backward thinking.

You have to love who you are today to become someone who you will authentically desire to be tomorrow.

Growing up white in Apartheid South Africa in the 50′s and 60′s, my exposure to African culture was through my maid and I was lucky enough to be introduced to the beautiful music and rhythms which are integral to African culture. Music was blaring from her radio all day and this instilled in me a love for the rhythm and beats of African music. I became an avid lover of music, in particular world music, and music and rhythm became an essential part of my life. But it was only in the last 10 years, after I had already been practicing medicine for 20 years, that I realized the importance of rhythm to health. (more…) read more →
