Dive Into Peace At The Beach

Editors Note: Alright kids, don’t give up on summer just yet!  Allow yourself to revive your Summer State of Mind for the last few weeks we have left.  Is there something that you really wanted to do this summer but didn’t get the chance?  Make that your priority and don’t let the summer pass you by without accomplishing the dreams you want.  Yes, it is that easy.  Getting what you desire starts with the commitment to do what it takes, so start today and get to work!  ~Nitika~

Even though Labor Day is just around the corner, you don’t have start stressing about the school year yet. It’s never too late to enjoy summer’s time-honored pleasures. I recently took a day trip to the beach in New Jersey with my friends and was blown away by the impact that just a handful of hours by the water had on my spirit and my perspective.

You can get to a local beach quickly and on the cheap so don’t start coming up with excuses. Grab your friends, your suit, a towel, and sunscreen, leave your watch at home, and head to the shore. Then just peace out.

Yes, it’s that easy, I promise.

Once you’re by the ocean I encourage you to try these tips for absorbing the healing power of your surroundings:

(1) Set the intention, one foot at a time

The tips of your toes may tell you to step away from the (possibly) chilly water, but inch by inch, keep going further in. Breathe with consciousness, let the sun move through you, and walk on. (Hint: it’s a metaphor for life.) As you move deeper into the water, set the intention for the water to purify you. Repeat any of the following mantras:

I’m moving deeper and deeper into my best self.

I’m washing away any resentment I’m clinging to in this moment.

I’m starting over in the ocean of my possibility.

(2) Wave jump into the new you

I didn’t quite remember how much I adored the ocean until I was in it again. I was a total fish (which my father always said about me when I was growing up), and my friend was laughing at how I was behaving like a kid. This is one situation in which you should embrace your youthful energy and just splish-splash about. And I definitely did. Most of all, I loved watching the waves come up into me as I would try to dive in, around, past them.

As the waves are coming to you, announce (internally or out loud, depending on your comfort level) to the universe:

I’m traveling full force into the light of my future.

I surrender to nature’s plan for me.

I release the weight of my past and indulge in the freedom of the present.

(3) Back on land

Now that you’ve lovingly exhausted yourself in the unruly beast of the ocean, chill out on the beach and soak up the sun. (Don’t forget sunscreen, and hydrate with plenty of water.) The sand can be an incredibly relaxing exfoliant, and the natural salts in the ocean sand can be a powerful cleansing agent for the skin.

Dig your feet into the sand. Rub it on your legs and arms. Turn a trip to the beach into an unexpected trip into nature’s spa. Remind yourself of the following:

I am stripping off any layers of doubt I’ve been wearing.

I am cleansing myself so I can begin again.

I am worthy of endless bliss and pleasure.

Summer enters and exits faster than you can say “SPF 30″ so plan your beach adventure now. If the sun, the water, the sand, and the eye candy weren’t enough to lure you in then hopefully the prospect of peace will turn you on. As far as I’m concerned, summer is all about slow-moving, fresh-air-breathing, water-with-lemon-sipping, hips-don’t-lie-dancing into the present moment of our lives.

On that note, I’ll see you at the beach!
