Color Your Moods
Editors Note: This is article is so much fun and the perfect guide to getting ready in the morning! We are always talking about COLOR on Bella Life but now see what each individual color means when you wear it. I love the thought of telling your own story with every outfit you choose, so see what color reflects your mood, get dressed, and share it with the world!
Growing up, my mom used to tell me yellow is not my color. “It makes you look pale and sick,” she said. Dressed in pinks and pastels, it made me look happy and healthy. Yellow has always been my favorite color and when I was younger I wish I knew how to wear it. Now, I can’t get enough of yellow clothing and sunshine in my closet. I’ve found “my” shade of yellow that makes me cheery and complements me. And, my mother and I are both happy.
Colors can change the way you look and feel. Colors send signals; alter appearance and colors change moods.
Recently, I met a seasoned image consultant who explained the power of black in the professional arena. “When you want people to listen to you, wear black. When you want to get clients, wear black.” As a color and image consultant, I understood what she meant. Black is the color of authority and power. Stylish and timeless, it makes the wearer appear thinner. When you have “nothing to wear,” you’ll find yourself reaching out for black in your closet.
Blue is also a color of authority. When you want to be taken seriously, wear blue. Younger men looking for a date will attract more women if they wear dark blue, as it makes the wearer look responsible. It’s the color of loyalty. Go for blue when going for a job interview.
White symbolizes purity and innocence. The wearer feels light and clean. It’s great for hotter months and tropical climates. White implies serenity, hence worn often by doctors and nurses.
Like white, Pink is the color of innocence. Little girls like all things pink for a reason! In a court hearing, when one would like to be proven innocent, wear pink. It’s tranquilizing.
Purple is the color of royalty – the kings in the Victorian era were know for wearing purple. Purple is associated with wealth and riches. Wear it if you want to look sophisticated.
Red is the color of passion and love. Intense, it stimulates a faster heartbeat. Red is not the ideal color for negotiations and confrontations. Red is usually used in accents. You can also go for lighter or less intense shades of red to appear romantic and more appealing to the opposite sex.
Green is the most pleasing color to the eye. A refreshing and calming color, it symbolizes nature. Ever wondered why people sit in the “green room” before stage performances and TV appearances? Green is known for its calming effect on the mind.
Yellow is an attention getter. Sunny yellow, the color of cheer, explains the smiley face on a yellow background. It improves concentration, hence legal pads and post it notes mostly are found in yellow. Go for yellow when your goal is to be noticed.
Brown represents abundance and nature. It implies genuineness. Brown can appear boring, but certain shades of beige look very elegant, when worn well. One of the easiest colors to play with, brown goes well with most other colors.
Everybody can wear any color when worn in a fashion that compliments you. Wear the tone and shade that works best for you. Glance in your mirror to make sure you are wearing the color, or, is the color wearing you. Consider going to a color consultant to get your colors done. Bring your mom along. It’s an investment that will save you money by allowing you to buy only the colors that work and enhance you.
