I admit it. I wasn’t always happy. Before I moved to Barcelona 2 ½ years ago, I would wake up every morning knowing I was living a life that wasn’t meant for me. But instead of taking a deeper look inside to figure out why, I buried all my feelings and went into autopilot mode. It was easier than dealing with it. And I went on living this way for close to 3 years.
And then something started happening. Almost daily, I would wake up in the middle of the night. My mind was racing. “What are you doing living in a city you don’t like? Why aren’t going out on the weekends and having fun? Is this the person you want to marry? What happened to all your dreams of travel?” All the feelings I was suppressing for years started to come up. I even started to feel sad, and ever worse jealous, every time I saw someone’s travel, or “happy-couple” pictures on facebook, or if one of my friends moved to a new city they loved. This was when I knew I could no longer ignore or hide what was really going on. I had to make some changes. I was afraid to, but more afraid of what would happen if I didn’t.

All of us inevitably go through tough times where things just aren’t going right at work, business, home, or life in general and, for some, it can take a toll on our self-confidence. A stressed out or negative mind won’t work as effectively to find a solution as a calm, positive mind. The next time you get a little too hard on yourself or just don’t feel as confident, take the following steps:
