Recently, my practice has had a huge influx of women whose periods have stopped coming every month. The technical definition for a “missing period” is Functional Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (FHA). FHA is a condition characterized by the absence of a menstrual period for three or more months in a woman of reproductive age, due to the breakdown in communication between the hypothalamus, pituitary and ovaries, also known as the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. Coconuts are one of the greatest gifts on the planet. Coconut oil has been used as a food and medicine since the dawn of history. Ayurverda (the medicine of India) and the medicinal systems of Polynesia have long advocated its therapeutic and cosmetic properties.
Unlike the high calorie, cholesterol-soaked, long-chain, saturated animal fats found in meat and dairy products, coconut oil is a raw saturated fat containing mostly medium-chain fatty acids that our body can metabolize efficiently and convert to energy quickly.
