Loving our bodies is a spiritual practice as much as it is a physical practice. Physically we drink green juice, we fully savor our gluten-free cookies, we downward dog, we dress in our favorite clothes and we praise our bodies in the mirror. If we approach any of these actions with a sense of fear, shame, or guilt, they don’t then provide us with their intended healing effects. However, when we are conscious of our connection to the Divine, and take action from that place, we are loving our bodies fully. We can repair our broken relationship to our bodies when the Divine is at the forefront of our minds and hearts. And if it isn’t at the forefront of our minds, we will feel it in every inch of our bones.
This is how loving our body becomes a spiritual practice. We have the perfect meter, our body, to tell us when we are on the path and when we are not.
Are you ready to end your mean thoughts, be kinder to your body, and finally make peace with food? Here are 3 mindset shifts that will help you along the way.
The Beginner’s Mind. Take one step at a time without worrying about the rest of the journey. Let’s approach our food as if it’s the first time we are eating it, sensing all of it’s depth, texture, fragrance, and color. Let’s feel and look at our body as if it’s the first time we’ve ever met our body. Notice the veins, color, texture, and sensations. We can act as if we don’t know everything about whatever it is we are engaging with, because we don’t.
Love is the Absence of Fear. If we are afraid to look at our bodies in the mirror, we aren’t seeing through the eyes of love. If we are afraid we are always eating the wrong thing, we aren’t seeing through the eyes of love. Begin to witness the fear in your relationship with your body and food, and you will slowly chip away at it’s vice on you.
Acceptance. A spiritual practice isn’t something that you do one day, and everything is magically perfect. It’s called a practice for a reason. This means it’s important to accept where you are at on you journey to breaking free from body hate and healing your relationship to food. Where you are right now, is exactly where you should be. No where else, or else you would be there. Know and trust that.
Take these 3 practices on and that’s the way to Body Love.
