From the moment I realized that this salon is located in one of most fabulous buildings in all of mid-town east, I got excited for the experience I was about to have.  Walking in to the third floor spot I immediately felt the buzz and electric energy that I love in Manhattan.  Pierre Michel has established itself as one of New York’s premier beauty salons in its 40 years of impeccable service and cutting edge approach to the industry, and with the recent re-vamped accomadations you can’t help but feel lucky to get an appointment!

The 10,000 square foot location is surrounded by 35 windows, causing an abundance of natural light to flow through the salon and better allowing hair colorists to create the optimum hue.  The salon also includes 61 work stations separated according to service, each equipped with a camera and telephone to facilitate communication amongst the staff in order to best serve the clients.  Further, sound proof tile floors and walls create a quiet, relaxing atmosphere very different from the usual loud and hectic salon environment.  The cool thing is that, even though they are a large salon, I never felt that I was in an over crowded space.

The salon also offers a unique element of privacy.  For example, women will are seated in a private room while their hair processes instead of waiting in the exposed lobby.  This is especially convenient for high profile clients who may not want to be noticed.  Compounding the privacy factor with the luxurious accommodations results in a salon experience that leaves the clients feeling as if they are receiving the treatments in their own homes.

Pierre Michel was able to achieve a perfect balance between luxury and practicality, optimizing both while sacrificing neither.  My favorite part of this luxurious experience?  The massage chairs at the hair washing station!!  I was SO pleasantly surprised when I layed down to get my hair washed and instead of the normal pain in the neck experience I had a relaxing and comfortable time, so much that I almost didn’t want to get up.

I got my hair blow dryed by stylist Mitch (he was amazing, my blow-dry lasted 5 days!!) and he also raved about his experience working there.  He said “I have worked at a lot of different places over the years, but I love the energy at this salon.  Everyone is nice and relaxed, and very talented.”
