I am remembering how powerful it is to feel.

Feeling is one of the greatest gifts we have as women.  It is our access to deep inner wisdom, inner knowing’s and truth.  Unfortunately, in our modern era, we have been educated to de-value or distrust our feelings.  We currently live in a world that values logic, reasoning, science and “concrete facts,” above all else.  This is the masculine world, and contrasts to the feminine world, based in the subtle information that comes from our sensitivity, from our emotions, from our bodies and from our creative abilities.

As children, we feel deeply and purely.  We don’t have to think twice about what we want to eat, what we want to say or do.  We feel something and go with it.  However, along the way we were taught that certain feelings are not good or right, or they make someone else feel bad and might hurt another.  Over time, we subconsciously begin to repress or ignore our feelings, thinking they are bad, or replace them with a constant feeling of guilt (for even having feelings) or doubt how we feel.  All of this leads to a loss of personal power, self-confidence and self-esteem that we see in far too many young girls today.

When we begin to cut off and shut down our feelings, we not only disconnect from ourselves, but we disconnect from others.  It is difficult to cultivate deep relationships with others, whether it is family, friends or a partner.  This is the crisis we are experiencing in the world today, a breakdown in human connection and feeling, leading to endless wars and destruction.

A feminine path based in feeling from the heart is deeply needed.  This path begins with each and every one of us, beginning to connect and feel ourselves.  When we say, “feel” our selves; it means we begin to tune in to how something actually makes us feel. It is a very practical concept.

For example, we can just begin to feel the clothes we are wearing right now.  How does your shirt or dress feel on your body?  How about your pants?  How does it feel to wear your hair up or down?  How do you feel when you do something nice for someone, or when you treat someone with anger?  How do you feel when you wake up in the morning?  When you go to work?  As we begin to ask these simple questions, we begin to tune into what is present and real.

We begin to access, what it means to truly be alive as we begin to slow down and feel, rather than rush around thinking about the next activity, the next goal, the next meeting, and all that comes with living in a fast-paced world.

As you go about your day, try to turn your orientation towards your feeling and what is happening in your inner world.  The practice is simply to observe and note, without any judgment, you breath into the feeling and you breath out, simply noticing.

This very simple practice will revolutionize the way you go about your day and life.  You will be amazed at what deep wisdom will begin to open up to you, and you didn’t even have to do anything but allow yourself to feel.
